At 53North, we all come to work every day because we want to solve industries biggest problems in relation to asset management. We know the difficulties. Businesses want to spend the minimum amount of money on maintenance whilst achieving a reliable, high performing and safe environment. Hands on technical skills are being lost, reactive cultures are prominent and there is often a silo working between capex and opex. Technical designers are bringing out numerous modern technologies, but don’t know who their target users are or sometimes how to reach them and remain unsure how much they are willing to spend.
Throughout the history of manufacturing, people have used assets to create products and data to make more informed decisions. Our passion at 53North is to use this data along with our team’s wealth of experience, combined with the utilisation of modern technologies and effective culture management to get the most value from our client’s assets. Today we provide the most actionable recommendation and insights in the industry. We want to make world class asset management available to as many businesses as possible and not just the top 10%.

As Part of service application and customer support, 53North have developed an asset care standard. This standard represents best practice development of asset care instructions using the latest technologies and techniques. 53North have developed a large compilation of PM instructions for many manufacturing and packaging assets within FMCG applications. These standards are effective for improving asset care. The 53North stamp is awarded to clients who adopt the improved standards and participate in in-house training to improve to levels of asset care.

Tom Clayton
Head of Reliability Services & Managing Director
“Tom founded 53North Group as a result of his passion and knowledge for Asset Care and Equipment Life Cycle Asset Management. With over 20 years’ experience he has a proven history of working in the manufacturing sector, with key skills such as; RCM, CBM, Value Stream Mapping, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA). He has a strong business development background and his professionalism is underpinned with a Master of Science (MSc) focused in Maintenance Engineering & Asset Management from The University of Manchester. As well as business associations, Tom is also responsible for Reliability Services at 53North, which includes the development of Asset Care Packages to improve life cycle costing, with lean and reliability principles to improve plant performance and maintenance cost effectiveness”.

Simon Palmer
Head of Engineering Services
A long established member of the 53North team, having joined in 2013, Simon’s passion for proactive maintenance regimes, combined with new reliability and CBM technologies has allowed 53North to focus its services in delivering a true Asset Care package. Utilising over 20 years’ of onsite practical mechanical and installation experience, has enabled Simon to support the team of Reliability Engineers in providing Total Asset Care to each and every customer. His hands-on down to earth approach to working within the FMCG, Aggregate and Quarrying industries has enabled him to share his appetite for the wide-ranging practical aspects of Asset Care, whilst ensuring that 53North’s Reliability Engineers continually engage with clients at each vital stage of their Total Asset Care journey.

Keith Smith
Head of Asset Management services
“Keith has spent over 16 years in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods environment, developing and promoting Asset Care Standards. He joined 53North in 2016 and brought with him key skills such as RCA, FMEA, RCM, Spares Management, and an adept understanding of Maintenance Change Management, both technical and cultural. Keith’s passion for Asset Care led him to further his knowledge in the field by completing a Master of Science (MSc) in Maintenance Engineering and Asset Management at the University of Manchester in 2017. Heading up the Asset Care team within the company, his main focus is the development of Customer Asset Management and Asset Care strategies, to support businesses in achieving World Class Asset Care”.

Chris Wragg
Head of Lubrication & Applied Sciences
“Chris, initially worked within a Chemistry and Materials Science environment, however, he eventually made the move to the Lubrication and Applied Science arena where he has remained for the last 15 years. His passion and understanding of Tribology, combined with his expertise of the materials used along with their chemical make-up, has allowed him to provide a more in-depth diagnosis of the wide-ranging physical causes of the stages of machinery failure. His natural progression from laboratory manager to the analysis of Root Cause Failure, Metallurgy and Troubleshoot Projects has only enriched his relationship with engineering. As part of these roles, Chris has been a key figure in the development of application software and technology testing, thereby, always ensuring that 53North are at the forefront of Life Cycle Asset Care”.
